Nice Jugs.

Some lovely bottle design and packaging.

Bottle design for Hwila mineral water of Sweden by Neumeister. Neumeister have tonnes of lovely work on their site. I think these bottles really reflect their contents, they look clean and refreshing.

Concept design for Forgeron Beer Designed by Dmitri Kuznetsov and visualized by Pavel Gubin and Naming by Ilya Milovanov for the Trudot community. The bottle top resembles the froth on top of a jug, a nice touch.

Knuthenlund is a Danish company that produce organic farmed products such as cheese and milk and have recently developed organic milk, the bottle design is reminiscent of old style glass bottles but with a beautifully delicate print on the front. I think it suits the brand perfectly.

Concept design for organic honey by Marcel Buerkle. I love how it strays away from taditional honey packaging shapes and avoids use of the obvious color - yellow and goes for a very subtle gold on white. It's so beautiful it looks like a skin/hair care product.

Crystal Head Vodka is a company founded by actor Dan Aykroyd and artist John Alexander. The name and bottle shape is based on the 13 Crystal skulls which have been found all around the world and all the myths and theories behind where they originate from and their alleged powers. A very cool concept. I especially like the wooden lid on the bottle.

With Rings on My Fingers and Rings on My Toes..

Rings are my favorite type of jewelry, especially ridiculously large and shiny ones, I'm like a magpie.
Here is a jewelry label that is mindblowingly beautiful.
Billy Bride is a label created by Renee Warne, a Sydney based jewelry designer. Billy Bride rings are all hand crafted and totally unique, each is made from a piece of crystal which has been naturally formed over years by the earth, so you are guaranteed no one will have one the same. Rings are available to buy on Billy Bride's site or commissions are available. Billy Bride also has a blog full of inspiration images which is lovely.

Smoking is Cool.

The new packaging design for Vogue cigarettes is lovely.
Obviously inspired by swirling cigarette smoke, the new packaging, designed by Slava Fedutik, is modern and colourful and really uses the packaging the way it should be used. Because it is illegal to advertise cigarettes and stores are not allowed to display them it seems that cigarette companies need to work harder at making their packet visible when in use and making it something that is desirable to carry, a fashion accessory of sorts. Vogue has always used fashion in their branding, from the minimalist all white coloring of the cigarettes to their long narrow shape and slim packet.

The packaging and design of the cigarettes makes you feel as though you will be oh so chic and sexy when smoking them, like the image below.

In reality you probably won't unless you're a gorgeous, slim, French woman. You'll probably just end up with mouth cancer, which is not such a sexy look. But who wants to dwell on that?

There is a blog devoted to images of people looking ridiculously cool whilst smoking, Le Smoking. Beautiful photos.

7 Tips for Eternal Youth (Or At Least Eternal Style).

I have recently been doing work experience at the Australian Style Institute where they mentor people on how to be personal stylists. I have written for ASI's weekly newsletter several times now, so here is what I wrote for next week's issue.

7 Tips for Eternal Youth (Or At Least Eternal Style). By Sarah Johnson.

The trick to fabulous style at any age is accepting your age, and workin’ it. Having a few key pieces and knowing a couple of secrets helps too. Here are 7 tips, for men and women, to achieve fantastic style, no matter what their age.

MEN

1. Take some inspiration.
There are heaps of men with fantastic style, and they’re not all twenty-something pop stars, in fact most of them aren’t. They are men who know how to put a look together so that they wear the clothes instead of the clothes wearing them. Immediately Google search Lapo Elkann, Toni Tanfani and Nick Wooster.

2. Make it you.

Develop a small style statement which is uniquely you. Whether it’s a tailor made scarf knot, quirky cuff links or a particular outrageous colour sock worn with every outfit, a signature touch can make a look personal.

3. Go for old-school elegance.

Keep in mind all those fashion trends and ideas of past decades, tie clips, tailored suits, bow ties, slicked back hair and cufflinks are all back. The 90’s are over so not caring is too, making an effort is back.

4. Use skin care.

Great skin is not only the domain of women and homosexuals. There are heaps of fantastic skin care products designed for men and it’s as easy as using an exfoliant and a moisturiser once a day to capture eternal youth. 2 steps. That easy.

5. Own a great suit.

A suit is like an investment. A great, designer suit actually is. Unlike most clothes, a beautifully made suit will retain its value over the years and with the right maintenance will be wearable for decades. Get it tailored for you to make it really work.

6. Consider your hair.

That’s all the stuff on your head, face included. Consider styling it further than a shampoo and a rub with a towel. Try a fantastic 50’s style like a side part or a subtle quiff. And whether your sporting a moustache, a full beard, 5 o’clock shadow or are clean shaved, make sure it’s clear which one you are and keep it neat and well groomed.

7. Care for your clothes.
Keep your shoes polished, your suits dry cleaned and in protective bags and get small holes or loose buttons fixed. Looking after you clothes properly will ensure they last longer and you always looked as well polished as your shoes.

WOMEN

1. Invest in quality.

When you’re in your teens, cheap fad clothes are fine. After then you need clothes to work a little harder and last a little longer. Spend money on well made pieces made in quality fabrics, look for shapes and styles that suit you instead of what the latest stars are wearing. All these things will ensure your wardrobe is flattering and timeless.

2. Wear sunscreen.
If you only do one thing to look after your skin make it to wear sunscreen. Sunscreen is the only proven anti aging cream and whilst a tan in your youth may be fashionable, leather skin by the time your 40 is definitely not.

3. Adopt a signature scent.
Scent is one of the most powerful senses for our subconscious and plays a huge part in making a first impression. Perfumes smell different on different people so always test a perfume on your own skin and leave it for a full day to see how it reacts on you before purchasing. Designing your own custom scent is now an easy and affordable luxury with many companies producing blendable smells. Try The Body Shop for affordable mixing kits.

4. Don’t rule things out.
Just because you’re a certain age doesn’t mean you have to shop in particular stores. Being 20 shouldn’t stop you from browsing through Sussan and being 45 shouldn’t stop you from checking out Sportsgirl. Whilst stores have definite target markets you can often find great pieces which, taken out of context and mixed with your wardrobe, could really work for you.

5. Wear denim.
Denim is not only for teens and twenty-somethings. With the right wash and cut denim can work for most ages and styles. Gossip Girl’s Lily Van der Woodsen (Kelly Rutherford) makes slim fitting, dark denim elegant by teaming with soft blouses, heels and an polished hair style.

6. Never ever..
Wear pyjamas to the supermarket, ugg boots in public, leggings as pants or visible lip liner. Super low cut jeans are NOT flattering and sneakers should never appear with jeans.

7. Love what you wear.
Confidence brings great style. If you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing you will be constantly adjusting it and feel self conscious. Wear what suits you and make sure you feel fabulous. Knowing you look good puts a strut in your step and gives you that illusive glow of confidence.

The Cure for Ugly Branding

Have you ever wanted your medication and remedies in a stylish little box covered in minimalist yet brilliant branding? No? Well you can get it now anyway.
Help has designed some fantastic packaging to go around some supposedly fantastic remedies (I've not tried them so I really can't comment).

The idea?

From the website,
'Help Remedies was created to make solving simple health issues simple. We find the best solution there is, and take away everything else. By stripping away some of the complexity and fear mongering of the health industry, we hope to make medicine friendlier and more accessible, and in doing so empower people to make their own health decisions.'

And the packaging doesn't just look good. It's environmentally friendly, mostly made out of corn in fact.

Help's website is great too, it is informative and easy to read and actually quite funny (think Nudie juice or Vitamin Water), it even has a section for when you're bored where you can create and buy your own help t-shirt, solve other people's problems and let Help solve your random, non-medical problems.
You can buy packs online for US$4or six packs fr US$20. That said, the shipping is US$14.55 if you live in Australia, making the whole thing not so worth while. Hopefully Help products will be available here soon.

Pinnacle of Design

The Montara by di Gaetano Pesce for Meritalia.
The two sides of the sofa are separate entities that can be used as individual chairs or fit snuggly together to make a two seater sofa.
WOW.

The Montara and many more mind blowing things are available via the Meritalia website.

Queen of Drape

Roksanda Illincic drapes a dress better than just about anyone. Flowing lines and water-like shapes appear in all of her collections, my personal favorite being the Fall 2010 Ready to Wear collection for all it's beautiful; rich hues and satiny-silky goodness. (F2101RTW collection available on Net-a-Porter now.)

Hey Hayon!

Jaime Hayon, of Hayon Studio, is a Spanish designer, and one of my favorites. His works spans from product design to exhibition spaces and interiors. A lot of his work is a sleek contemporary take on Louis XVI style and uses bold, block colors.
If you complied all his interiors you'd end up with a rough idea of what my hypothetical dream house will look like.

La Terraza del Casino (Madrid)
Octium Jewelry (Kuwait)Faberge Salon (Switzerland)

One of my favorite pieces by Hayon is Swarovski Sparkle Shady, a flexible, versatile light feature with a skin encrusted with Swarovski crystals, allowing it to sparkle and shine even when not lit.

YSLove of My Life.

If I could only wear one designer, from head to toe, for the rest of my life, it would probably be Yves Saint Laurent. Whilst browsing YSL's site today I have decided I want it ALL. Everything is just so EFFORTLESS. It somehow manages to look perfectly timeless and at the same time excruciatingly sexy.

Most of all I want (or NEED) the Arty Too silver plated ring (last image). I cannot remember the last time I wanted anything so badly.

High-waisted leather skirt

Cascade-front silk-satin blouse
Muse oversized leather tote
Shearling-lined suede gloves

Chelsea tassel ankle boots
Silk-satin wrap-style dress

Cashmere and wool-blend oversized cardigan
