Swimsuit Up

I am super excited for swimming this summer after seeing these new swimsuits from the Australian online store, Black Milk. I love the simple shape which brings back memories of the 90's and the great prints. There are more that 20 variations online as well as crazy printed tights and bodysuits.
The best part is the swimsuits are only $85.00 and can be in your hot little paws before the week is out.
You'll be having fun, fun, fun 'til your daddy takes your credit card away!

Leiber Fever

If you Google Judith Leiber you are likely to find 1. Her website, 2. A lot of Sex and The City references and 3. Heated debate as to whether her purses are gorgeous or gaudy.
I am personally of the opinion that they are wonderfully both.
I have stated before that I am like a magpie, attracted to all things shiny, and just look how shiny Leiber's purses are!
Leiber is most famous for her novelty crystal purses which come in a huge variety of shapes (mostly animals and in her older collections, fruits and vegetables), but she also makes more classic crystal clutches as well as other bags, eye wear and accessories.

It should also be noted that Leiber's purses first make an appearance in Sex and The City in 'The Caste System' (S02E10) when Mr. Big gives Carrie the swan purse to take to a high society party. Carrie shows the purse to her friends and they all go on about how 'not Carrie'/ugly it is. All kinds of fantastic Leiber purses are shown in this episode (in the party scene), from pigs to eggplants. (The pig is still available in the current collection.)

Leiber's cupcake purse is then featured, in a more positive light, in the first Sex and The City movie where Charlotte's daughter Lily carries it at Carries wedding. The purse was custom made to fit Carrie's mobile in it and plays a fairly crucial role in the film.

Some of my favorites from the current collection..
Mary
I like the kitties best!

Judith Leiber novelty purses range from about $3000 to around $7000 and are available from the Judith Leiber website and Net-A-Porter.

Eeeeeeeee!

The title of this post may hint at my excitement. Excitement for a present I will be receiving this Christmas. The Atelier Swarovski Christopher Kane Beetle Ring!
My mother has been ever obliging and bought me this ring, though she is making me wait until Christmas to be able to wear it. I ADORE Christopher Kane and am beyond ecstatic to be owning something he designed in the very near future. Eeeeeeeeee!!!

I would also like the rest of the range, but that could be pushing it.

PixCell Art

Japanese artist Kohei Nawa's PixCell series of sculptures feature all kinds of subject matter, from Mario toys to taxidermy deer, from sneakers to fake lemons. each item is chosen from online auction sites after viewing only the thumbnail picture, when the real item arrives, the difference between the pixelated image and the item is clear. when covered in glass beads the item becomes ambiguous again, with a light, air around it.

Artful Food

A couple of lovely blogs that revolve around making art out of food.
First, Cookieboy. His cookie creations are absolutely amazing, the intricacy in the icing is beyond belief and the designs are so pretty and original. The website is all in a foreign language so I can't read any of it but the images are just wonderful!

A sample of some of cookieboy's delicious looking art.

Second, Jim's Pancakes. Jim is just a guy trying to make some cool pancakes for his daughter according to his blog. And these are some seriously cool pancakes. From pancakes that look like burgers to 3D dinosaurs, he's thought of it all. Now why didn't my dad ever make me pancakes like this?

Pile of Houses

Vitra Haus.
The new home to Vitra's furniture collection is literally a pile of houses. The building reaches five stories high and contains twelve separate houses.
Vitra Haus is designed by Herzog and de Meuron, best known for designing the Beijing Olympics 'Bird's Nest'.
The Vitra Campus in Weil am Rhein
, Germany, comprises of many stunning pieces of architecture designed by some of the world's best designers.

I love how the Vita Haus building plays with scale, it's hard to imagine how big or small it is from the outside images. I also like how each individual 'house' looks so conventional, even pre-fab, and yet the overall building looks anything but. The gray exterior makes the all white interiors and beautiful interior light really pop through the large windows.

Grown Up Tree House

Treehotel is like a set of tree houses for grown ups. Sweden's Boreal Forrest is home to the new eco friendly hotel, inspired by director Jonas Selberg Augustsén’s 2008 documentary Trädälskaren (the Tree Lover). Treehotel, the brainchild of husband and wife team Britta Jonsson-Lindvall and Kent Lindvall, comprises of 7 small, separate buildings.
The small buildings are powered by sustainable electricity and are attached to the trees with a metal clamp (adjustable to fit the tree as it continues to grow) as opposed to screws and nails
The buildings have been designed by some of Sweden's best and most innovative architects including Bertil Harström (winner of the Excellent Swedish Design Award) and Tham & Videgård (the firm behind the Kalmar Museum of Art, another amazing piece of architecture).
The 'Mirror Box Room' is my favorite.

which would damage the trees.

Watch This Space

Great modern watches from Nixon. The whole range is fantastic, a contemporary take on classic shapes and minimalist styles. I especially like the monotone versions. And the best news is they average around US$150 which is super right now considering the state of the AU$.
