RepliCan't Belive it Furniture.

I am finding it hard to fathom that every time I open a home wares magazine I am bombarded by ads for 'replica' furniture companies. That is, companies blatantly copying designer furniture and selling it as much lower prices. They even name the designer that are plagiarising. Firstly, I'm not sure how they are allowed to do this, maybe because they are being honest about the fact that it's fake and referencing the designer? I'm not sure.

Either way, who would want to buy this furniture? We all know how tacky a fake Louis Vuttion handbag is so why is fake furniture OK?

Personally I'd rather sit on an original Ikea than a fake Eames.

Tap Tap Tap

Do taps excite you? No? Me neither, well, until now.
Check out the latest in designer faucets.

'The Shark' faucet by ST Rubinetterie.
Sleek, minimalist and water saving to boot.

'Ring' by Sun Liang is designed to showcase water as the beautiful element that it is so that we no longer take it for granted.

The 'USO Touch Faucet' by KWC is the pinnacle of hi-tech faucets. Forget tap handles, so passe, this faucet reacts to touch. you simply tap it. once for cold, twice for warm and thrice for hot. It also shows you what temperature it's at with an LED, blue for cold, orange for warm and red for hot. Mind blowing.

Nostalgia in Advertising.

New Zealand white goods company Bond + Bond have had clever ad agency DraftFCB come up with their latest promotion. They have taken the approach of using nostalgia to make modern white goods, which are often viewed as cold, hi-tech and impersonal, a little more emotional.

They used a white metal billboard to simulate a fridge then created huge plastic magnetic letters with which to spell out their latest deals.
Fun, no?

Tasteful Australiana.

Tasteful Australiana is so rare, it's hard to escape from all the koala fridge magnets, wooden Australia shaped cribbage boards and tacky Parliment House shot glasses, but Australian husband and wife design team Poulier & Poulier have come up with something a little better.

These charming Captain Cook and Sir Joseph Banks silhouette prints come in cards (shown below), tea towels and tote bags and they're all designed, printed and produced in Australia.

World's Most Stylish Man?

Well, GQ Magazine says he's atleast in the Top 25.

Lapo Elkann.

He is the heir to Fiat auto company and his brother is a 'crown prince'. Old money, as they say.

Ofcourse, in 2005, there was the whole cocaine and heroin overdose in the house of a transsexual, but really, who doesn't want that story to tell?

The Sartorialist is a fan. He even styled his own shoot (with his own clothes) for a Vogue editorial back in 2007, and you have to be seriously stylish for that.

Dear Santa,

I'm writing early cause I have some big asks this year.
Please bring me..

1. A Kartell 'Stone' stool in amber (AU$305).

2. A Custom Metallic Kitchen Aid in copper (US$529.99)

3. A 'Jewels' armchair by Edit (AU$1650)

P.s I also need a house to put these in.

Love, Sarah.

A Claes Act.

I am a big believer in art with a sense of humor and art that makes you smile.

And oh Claes, you make me giggle!

Claes Oldenburg was a serious mover and shaker back in pop art's hey day and even now. He collabertated with his wife, Coosje van Bruggen, alot in more recent years. He even has a piece of art on the moon in Moon Museum! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moon_Museum)

He is best known for his giant scupltures of everyday objects but I, personally, love his soft objects.

Oh Dior!

Dior Fall Couture 2010, oh yes.

Just looking at these makes me happy. If I were to put one of these dresses on I would probably just twirl about til I died.

And I don't care if feathers and ruffles are not appropriate for Uni, I'd wear these anyway.

This may be the perfect coat, there is no way you could be cold in all that colour and feathers.

Technicolour Dream Coats.

The best thing about winter = jackets/coats/capes etc.
All those lovely fashion items that also happen to serve the purpose of keeping us warm!

Some of the better ones I've seen this year (Two of which I am super excited to own. The other I am yet to justify).

Cooper St. 'Critter Tux'. My most recent obsession/purchase.

Cue Mettalic Tux. It's double breasted but can be buttoned back to become a tux style blazer so it's practically two jackets! I am yet to wear this and not be stopped by women commenting and even touching. Plus it has very cute little tails at the back.

Cue Aqua Fur Jacket. I want it so badly just to hang in my wardrobe and look at from time to time because I am yet to come up with somewhere it is appropriate to wear it. It also has great pieces of coloured glass along the neckline which you can't see in this image.

Appropriate Use of the Term 'Genius'.

Tobias Wong. Genius.

I found out today that one of my favourite designers, Tobias Wong, died on May 30th. He was only 35.

His death was found to be suicide. The New York Times report investigated Wong's history of parasomnias (sleep disorders which allow the sleeper to perform comlex tasks whilst asleep). His partner believes Wong hanged himself whilst alseep.

His work is inspiring and incredible. Heavily influenced by Dada and and Fluxus, Wong's work was intelligent and thoughtful as well as beautiful. Wallpaper magazine named him Young Desinger of the Year in 2004.

He had collaborated with many artists and designers including Commes de Garcons, Ken Courtney (Ju$t Another Rich Kid) and citizen:Citizen.

Much of his work explored the idea of luxury and consummerism. In his Indulgences Collection (with Ken Courtney) he coated mundane items and items which had been commonly used as coke spoons (McDonalds stirrer, Bic pen lid) in 18k gold.

His work with diamonds, especially his diamond rings, questions why we put value on certain materials and what they mean to us.

He also created the Wrong Store, a pop-up 'store' in New York which never actually opened.

"I'm a man of extremes. And what's the opposite of indulgence? Denial. I'm not going for denial. I'm not that spiritual, so indulgence it is."
Tobi Wong, The H Line, 2007

Some of his most well known work:
